Hello everyone!
Hope
you’ve all been having a good summer!
We’ve been very busy over the last few weeks with various musical projects. At the beginning of July we had a great time playing at Ashover Festival in Derbyshire, where Hazel also played with her new trio, Lady Maisery. We were looked after very well and there were lots of excellent acts, including the amazing band Ethno in Transit, featuring various musicians from the different Ethno summer camps all over the world - see their MySpace page...
Shortly afterwards, Hazel travelled to the beautiful town of Murau in Austria, to musically direct a production of King Lear which she composed the music for. Meanwhile, Emily was playing with the renowned early music ensemble The Dufay Collective for a couple of gigs, including a performance at Dartington, which has been recorded for a broadcast on Radio 3 at a later date.
We then returned to Sidmouth Folkweek for a few days to do a couple of gigs and a workshop on 3/2 hornpipes. We had a lovely time as usual and had a great article written about us in the Sidmouth Herald.
Shortly afterwards we made our way up to Hartlepool’s headland to play at the Tall Ships Festival. We saw lots of tall ships and small ships and lots of great music. Thanks to Sean and the Young ‘Uns for inviting us and putting together all the folk events.
We’ve had more great reviews for the album coming in; the Bright Young Folk website described how "Through Lonesome Woods" cements The Askew Sisters' reputation as "shining stars on the British folk scene" and fRoots magazine called the album "a triumph". See full reviews here...
We’ll shortly be making our way to Whitby FolkWeek which we’re really looking forward to, and this year Lady Maisery will also be doing a couple of gigs on the Tuesday which is quite exciting (you can listen to some tracks and see a video from their first gig on their myspace...)!
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Emily and Hazel x
